Calidus Engineering Ltd. (CalEng) – United Kingdom
Calidus Engineering Ltd . is a company specializing in the research & development of high temperature downhole instrumentation. The principal Nigel Halladay has a Masters Degree (MPhil) in the development of downhole instruments for geothermal applications and has been engaged in this area of research for some 25 years. The engineering team within the company encompasses over 100 manyears of logging/wireline tool experience with specific reference to high temperature systems.
Examples of tools used by high temperature logging companies: “designing and building systems for very harsh environments where our MO is “High Reliability Engineering” where “adequate” is not satisfactory”, or “they have performed some tools resisting temperature more than 200°C : 350 °C Resistivity tool and Pressure / Temperature / flow production tool, 300 °C Cableheads or 250 / 350 / 400 °C Fluid sampler“.
Role in the project
CalEng will apply extensive knowledge in high temperature tool designing, evolving for almost three decades. Their contribution allow several physical parameters in the new geothermal environment to be evaluated, including temperature, pressure, flow rate, casing collar location, fluid conductivity and resistivity. All these parameters are of great interest for fluid and reservoir evaluation. CalEng will be in close cooperation with other relevant partners regarding design and functionality, such as theoretical design of dual laterolog (resistivity tool) and connectivity with surface readout units. The heat of HITI will be placed on this task, both in terms of budget and attention to results.
