Centre for Renewable Energy Sources (CRES) - Greece

The CENTRE FOR RENEWABLE ENERGY SOURCES (CRES) is the national coordination centre of Greece on renewable energy and energy saving technologies, including geothermal energy and the official Greek government consultant in national policy, strategy and planning . In addition, CRES carries out applied research and works as promoter, organiser and advisor on all aspects of planning and implementation of renewable energies. CRES, and the personnel of its geothermal sector, have accumulated valuable experience over a long period of time in all aspects of geothermal exploration, exploitation and ground source heat pumps, including dissemination activities. The Geothermal Section of CRES has designed, financed and supervised many R&D activities on all aspects of geothermal energy including ground source heat pumps , participating in more than 80 European and nationally funded projects, including supervision and construction of geothermal applications, geothermal energy potential assessment, especially in thermal direct and indirect geothermal applications design and testing, geothermal energy potential assessment including generic R&D tasks. Recent applications include ground-coupled heat pumps, drilling exploration and seawater desalination.

The Centre for Renewable Energy Sources (CRES) according to Laws 2244/94 and 2702/99 is the Greek National Centre for Renewable Energy Sources (RES), Rational Use of Energy (RUE) and Energy Saving (ES).

CRES has participated in more than 700 European, national and international projects. These include applied research and technological development projects, demonstration and/or commercial application projects, energy policy studies, development of energy information systems and energy modelling, investment feasibility studies, techno-economic feasibility studies, environmental impact assessments, market research as well as activities for the promotion and dissemination of RES/RUE and ES. Through these projects, CRES has developed co-operation with many public and private organisations, at a national, European and international level.

Role in the project

CRES has a long and withstanding experience in geothermal energy exploration. Their dissemination abilities promise to be a very useful contribution to expanding the usability of HITI deliverables, such as advertising the instruments in a brochure and managing an Internet web site.
